Portugal has been on my list of places to visit for a while. In my mind, it’s the European cousin to San Francisco. Home with a Portuguese twist. The hilly terrain, the trams to match our cable cars and a bridge strikingly similar to the Golden Gate. As I get closer to planning an actual trip, my day dreams are taking shape quite nicely. The more I read and research, the more convinced I am that I need to take the trip, sooner than later. I’m aiming for a trip in the Fall. In case you need some convincing, here are the top reasons why I can’t wait to visit Portugal.
Explore Douro Valley
Caves are cool in general. Add wine and they become increasingly cooler. Exploring wine caves, sipping port and marveling at the natural beauty of the Douro Valley sounds like the perfect day trip.
Indulge Your Artsy Side
Visiting cities and towns in Europe always feels like a walk through history, with the ornate and beautiful architecture, centuries old. Add to that countless museums, street art and murals, and you’ve got a dope mix of old and new. Dust off your photography skills and capture what inspires you.
Discover Perfect Bites
I live for a good food crawl. Finding perfect bites in a new city is one of my favorite things about travel. After the epic food tour I went on in Paris, I’m convinced this is the best way to get to know a new city. Having a local walk you through a neighborhood, learning the history and culture, eating snacks and drinking wine along the way- what more could you want?
Be a Beach Bum
Who doesn’t want to visit majestic sea caves and grottos? Exploring the Algarve coastline of Portugal looks like a beach lover’s dream.
Discover Local Treasures
Word on the street- Portugal is second only to Italy for their luxury leather game. That’s right ladies, bags and shoes! This could be the sole reason for your trip (pun intended).
Be Queen for a Day
Visit palatial palaces and castles in Sintra and dream about living life as a royal. If Meghan can do it, so can we.
Sing the Blues
Hit a wine bar to experience Fado music. This soulful blues music feels like the Portuguese version of old R&B soul music. I’m here for it!
Pronto?!
Okay, so are you ready to go yet? Cause I really can’t wait!
Have you been to Portugal? If so, what else should be on my list for my first trip?
